How to train your people

Today was a tough day at work. One of those days that the answer to all the questions seems to be the middle finger. You know which one.

Grumpy Cat

After work i dragged my tired body to the local market. I was standing in the line, at the well-known grumpy cashier lady, waiting for my turn and digging in my huge bag in search of my wallet. (Women know exactly what i am talking about) When i heard it: “Goodmorning!”

♠ Shocking! ♠

I looked up flabbergasted. The cashier lady had just hello-ed me!!!

Now you ‘ll tell me “so what’s the big deal?” Let me explain myself, i believe in smiling. I don’t just say that, i actually live that way, i need to have a positive environment. If that is not happening, i try to make it happen, put some light and color in it. Most of the time i achieve that by doing silly things, and having a positive attitude against grumpy people.

In the city i currently live there is one thing i complain about all the time: People. They are always so serious and stiff! I always say “hello” when entering, lets say the gym, and that “hello” always comes with a smile. And you know what, i want to see a smile back! Well, local people are seriously testing my nerves…! And nope, i am not gonna quit cause that is what i do.

So now you understand my surprise.

The lady i have been seeing almost every day for the last 5 years gave me the “hello” smile! Of course my smile back at her was beyond satisfaction! I even wanted to reach and hug her, ask her how her day was, but then i decided i shouldn’t take matters so far…

On my way home i couldn’t stop thinking….

Oh my God, i trained the grumpy super market lady!!!!

Be honest now,
don’t you just hate it
when people don’t “hello” you back?

  1. That makes two of us!!! I know exactly what you mean and BRAVO, my dear. I once trained a very very grumpy old man. Now he smiles before I even look at him! We are the smile delegates!!!! Love your happy chimp! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 [for a smile OD!]

  2. They do say that smiling is contagious. If you smile at someone they can’t help but to smile back at you. Ioanna I am smiling as I read this blog post! It is so positive and inspiring.

Well done to you (and the newly trained cashier).

  3. That DOES bother me. Funny. I just read this today: “make yourself so happy that others get happy just looking at you”. I thought, “this is going to be my new mantra.”
Hey you! Yeah, you!! I WILL make you smile. 😉
Congrats on your accomplishment, ioanna. Not always an easy feat.
