On feeling succesful

Turn your thoughts into actions, by Sebastien Millon

This past year has been a revelation for me.

My experience this period (which actually started in 2013) in the startup industry is like a condensed learning experience on every level, personal and professional.

I learnt a lot about marketing, customer service, people management, startup investing and much more, that I am grateful for – and at the same time learnt so many things about myself; what I like and what I don’t like, what makes me happy, what I do wrong and need to improve, to the things that I handle pretty well.

I’ve grown and I’ve changed so much. Change is good, but it has to be conscious. Ok, you may not always know where a road might take you and it’s refreshing to risk and explore! But I feel that you need to be aware of your feelings along that road, are you happy? Does this make you a better person? Yeah, tough questions, I know!

A job or a certain way of life in not for everyone, and these days with all the online exposure of our lives people tend to label everything “succesful” or “failure”.

I like thinking that it’s a matter of choice. You choose and you try.

Steve Jobs built Apple and boy was he succesful! Pablo Picasso painted the Guernica, and hey, what can you say about Pablo? So how do you “weight” those two people?

You don’t, cause they are different.

What makes them so “succesful” (since this is what everyone is talking about, success) is that each one of them did what he truly loved.

It’s about feeling succesful, it’s about staying true to yourself.
The road is still going to be bumpy, but it’s sure going to be a hell of a ride 😀

P.S. I started writing about the reasons why I quit my online life for so long, but hey, you know how you start writing a certain post & end up talking about a totally different subject? Pens do have a mind of their own!

  1. I would sure love to hear more about your start-up business, Ioanna. I’m considering starting a business myself, and I’d love to share the experience. I think I could learn a lot from you. 🙂

    • Hello my friend! So glad to see you! 🙂 You are in China now? (wow!) Thank you for your kind words, it is a big learning experience that I’d love to know that could help someone – of course I am here if you wanna ask anything 🙂

      • No, Ioanna, I’m no longer in China, but I was there from September 2014-July 2015. It was a great experience, but I’m glad to be back home now. As for your business, I don’t really know what to ask because I’m not sure what kind of business you have and whether it might relate to my business idea! 🙂

        • Ahhh home sounds nice! 🙂 I am working in the startup industry, on an e-commerce app for Dubai, good luck on your business idea, doing your own thing it’s an amazing experience 😀

  2. Very few people are lucky enough to have a job or choose a career they actually enjoy. Finding the right niche for yourself, in my opinion, is the definition of success.

    • Nice to be back David! I read that phrase by Seth Godin you have in your about page “if you are blogging for other people you are going to be disappointed…even if no one would read it, I would still blog…this is a great chance for me to clear my thoughts and put them into the world, what an opportunity.” – makes so much sense, I was loosing on this community for so long because I was trying to “be” someone else (online that is) so thank you for the reminder 🙂

  3. Wishing you continued “success” and enjoyment as you use your current situation to learn about yourself and what makes you uniquely you! All the best! 🙂

talk to me! :)
