Today i had the strangest feeling. Twice.

There i was, downtown, with two bags full of little presents on one hand and an Alexandrian flower pot on the other.

I stopped at a kiosk to buy tickets, smiled at the cashier and wished him a happy new year. As i was walking out of the store, an old woman came in. I made her room so she can pass (it was a really small kiosk) and as she was walking by me i heard her whispered
“Oh my God, my back hurts so much”.

I felt as if i shouldn’t have heard that, as if it was meant for someone else…

And then it happened again, on my way to the bus stop a man with his family, his wife and a small girl, passed by me humming “dashing through the snow, with a one horse open sleigh…”

And there it was again. The feeling i just heard something so deep and true.

I felt… no, no! I knew He heard both of those people…

  1. Yes, there are so many people in this world, with all kinds of disparate feelings over the holidays. Some people have a lot of suffering and others feel great exuberance and joy. And it may vary from year to year, day to day, and even minute to minute. We are all part of this wonderful thing called humanity, with all our woes and joys!! Happy holidays, Ioanna!!

  11. Ioanna you are and ANGEL of course you notice life all around you as do I.

    I was in the post office here in NH on Wed. just mailing out cards to locals when the man in front of me asked the woman behind the counter if she could please address his envelope for him. Now he was late 70′s early 80′s with disabilities can and all. Her reply made me made and I was next in line she said “Sorry we are not supposed to do that!” Step aside she said and I will ask him out back if he wants too. Now I spoke up and said I will do it. He never heard me but had moved over as she had suggested. I paid for my stamps and before putting them on I touched his arm and said “Sir I will do that for you.” he had also asked for a blank piece of paper to wrap his Money order up in :( she again said NO. Well I told his I would see what the recycle bin had in it now there were 10 in line and she hands me a pen and paper to help him with. I am sorry if by offering I made her look at herself but he needed help for such a simple task which took me all of 3 minuets of my time. I wished him a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to which he replied Thank you so much and Merry Christmas to you. He smiled as did I because we knew we were here to just answer the need of another. I was blessed that day. I know for certain he felt it too it is how humans no matter how frazzled should treat one another.

  15. And I am here, reading your blog and said to myself: Oh my god, I feel so lonely.
    Holidays are the loneliest times since my friends are with their families and my family is far away. (and those Christmas movies make me cry)

    • We all have our lonely times, trust me, I know. The worst loneliness is the one you feel when you are with others. So you are lucky you have friends and family in your life! Maybe you ‘ll spend next Christmas with them! Lonliness is not a bad thing… it shows you the people you really miss, so don’t worry!
